Work Based Programmes

Work based learning usually involves study and assessment as part of a job or work placement combined with study at a centre or Gateshead College. Here are some of the work-based learning choices you have at the three different levels of study.

Opt L1

Entry / Level 1 Programmes

If you need a bit of extra support before joining a full-time programme, Entry to Employment (E2E) might be able to help you.

E2E can lead to or include NVQ Level 1 and give you the skills and confidence to move on to a job, training or college. E2E builds a programme around you to suit your needs. It lasts for as long as you need it and are ready to move on. E2E can provide you with a training allowance and you will get travel costs and childcare costs if needed.

NVQ Trainingat Level 1 are work based learning programmes and college courses. They are at an introductory level of study and are available in vocational subjects like Business Administration and Catering & Hospitality.

Opt L1

Level 2 Programmes

Level 2 learning routes are available from a wide range of providers. Included are progammes and courses such as GNVQ Intermediate, BTEC First Diploma, Apprenticeships and NVQ Training at Level 2.

Apprenticeships are often delivered in a real job with a local employer. Students follow NVQ Level 2, receive training in Key Skills and gain technical certificates in specific job skills.

Work Based Learning NVQ Training at Level 2 is provides training at work and in a centre or training at Gateshead College. Unlike Apprenticeships, trainees only study for their NVQ qualification.

Opt L1

Level 3 Programmes

Learning programmes at Level 3 are available from a wide range of providers. Most last about 2 years and include courses and programmes such as AS/A2 Levels, Advanced Vocational Certificate in Education (AVCE). BTEC Nationals. Advanced Apprenticeships and NVQ Level 3 Training.

Advanced Apprenticeshipsoffer training usually with a job in particular occupational areas. Qualification are to NVQs levels 3 or 4, combined with key skills, and technical certificates.

NVQ Level 3 training is available in similar occupational areas to Apprenticeships. Training is provided at work and at a training centre or Gateshead College. Unlike Apprenticeships, trainees only study for their NVQ qualification.
