Options at 16
So what choices are available to you at 16? You have to make decisions about where you will study or work, the kind of course or programme you will follow and where each of these choices could lead you. Here is a simple guide to what you can do and where you can do it.
Study in the Sixth Form
You could follow any of these courses:
- AS/A2 Courses
- AVCE Courses in vocational subjects in some Sixth Forms.
- Intermediate GNVQ in vocational subjects in some Sixth Forms
- Re-sit GCSE English and Mathematics
Study at College
You could follow any of these courses:
- Variety of vocational courses at Level 3 (AVCE, or equivalent courses. National Diploma.
- Variety of vocational courses at Level 2 (GNVQ Intermediate, First Diploma). Vocational courses at Level 1
- Prevocational or Entry Level courses
- AS/A2 at some Colleges
Study with a Work Based Learning Provider
Work Based Learning combines employment or work placement with NVQ and other qualifications. You could follow any of these programmes:
- Pathways for Progression - P4P
- Entry to Employment - E2E
- Apprenticeship
- Advanced Apprenticeship
- NVQ2
- NVQ3
Go straight into Employment
Direct entry to a job with possibility of future entry to education or training.
